Mosque
The mosque located at the western end of the platform is about 210 feet in length and 90 feet wide. It is raised on a slight plinth. The flooring is adorned with a velvet red material that offers a 539 black marble prayer carpets. The interiors are gorgeous having splendid calligraphy. Verses from the Holy Quran are seen in the mosque.
The mosque facing towards Mecca is used for prayer. The roof has 4 octagonal towers and 3 elegant domes. There are two towers on either side of the Mosque, to the north and south.
The Jawab, on the east side of Taj Mahal
Built of red sandstone the twin of the mosque is located on the east side. It is not used for prayer as it does not face towards Mecca. So it is still an enigma why it was built. It is said that it was built to preserve the symmetry of the design of the entire Taj complex. It looks similar to the mosque. Floral designs done in white marble is seen here.
