Agra Fort
Before visiting Taj, a tourist must visit the Agra Fort to have a first hand notice of the glorious capital of Agra. This fort was built by the Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1565. It was a grand building comprises of palaces, gardens, market place, etc. Built of red sandstone Agra Fort has many buildings which has inlay art works adorned with stones and religious motifs. Each part of it is worth seeing, the thorn where the Kings sits, the pillars where the ministers sit in the social gathering and important meetings. Taj Mahal tour is incomplete without a visit to this great monument. As after visiting it one can have an idea how lavishly the fort was built by the Mughal Emperors. More than 6 Mughal kings lived in this fort and even Sher Shah Suri also lived in this fort a few months.
Akbar's Tomb
Akbar’s Tomb located at Sikandra is a must see attraction near Taj Mahal. It is just 4 kms away from Agra city on the Delhi-Agra road. The architecture of the tomb is a mix of Hindu and Mughal architecture. There are religious motifs inlaid on it.
Fatehpur Sikri
Located 30 kms away from Agra city, Fatehpur Sikri seems like an oasis town built completely of red sandstone. It houses the largest door of the world, Buland Darwaja. This city was built by the Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1570. It is said that due to shortage of water Akbar abandoned this city and shifted his capital to Agra. The architecture is a fusion of Hindu and Islamic architecture; the main features are palace buildings, lavish decoration on the walls, etc. This city still has an enchanting charm with its royal buildings.
